Dear HWW Students, Families and Community members,
This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week at Henry Wise Wood with today being Pink Shirt Day. As a school district, we recognize Pink Shirt Day every year to honour a grassroots act of kindness and to reaffirm our shared commitment to reducing bullying and creating welcoming, caring safe and respectful spaces for everyone. Thank you to Ms Breau and our Leadership students for our lunchtime Kindness activities throughout the week.
Here at Henry Wise Wood, we know Kindness matters. This semester, we have been inviting students and staff to do something Kind for someone, to improve someone’s day and to be Warriors. Together, we create a community of caring. This starts with small actions and becomes a web of Kindness, belonging and connection.
Thank you to everyone who is wearing their Pink Shirts today and for all of the Acts of Kindness throughout this week and always. We have included some additional resources later in this newsletter.
Sharing our appreciation to our School Council Executive and the parents/guardians who were able to attend this week’s School Council meeting and School Planning Engagement. Our presentation slides can be found here for your review.
Looking ahead, there are no classes for students this Friday. Our professional learning day will be dedicated to an Elder visit from Dr. Elder Kerrie Moore; we are looking forward to our focus on resilience and Spirit, as we care for ourselves, one another and our Warrior students. We will also continue our good work on outcomes-based assessment.
Wrestling City Championships take place this weekend, and Basketball Playoffs are underway next week. Badminton is well underway and spring sports will be coming soon. Let’s go, Warriors!
With gratitude,
Aileen Smyth, Principal
