One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
Warrior Parents/Guardians are Invited to Join School Council Meetings!
Everyone in the school community is invited to participate in meetings. The School Council is headed by the Principal, an executive team (consisting of Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Key Communicator), and Representatives of the Teaching Staff and Students.
The School Council is primarily an information sharing, communication and advisory vehicle for parents, school administrators, teachers and student council.
Thank-you to all who helped with the Henry Wise Wood Parents and Alumni Association's most recent casino! The funds raised through this event provide much needed resources, equipment, and experiences for our students. See the Parent Society web page for more details.
Meeting Dates/Schedule
The Henry Wise Wood School Council meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the school courtyard. All meetings are held in-person and online unless otherwise indicated.

Why is School Council important?
Through participation on School Council, parents and teachers share cutting edge ideas and key information. Through comprehensive updates from Administration, parents are kept informed on everything from interesting upcoming events and key dates as well as ongoing initiatives, educational and program goals and outcomes, curriculum assessments and updates, facility and other budget reporting, and knowledge of the other supports for the learning success of all students.
Moreover, at School Council meetings, learning leaders, program quarterbacks and administration seek the input of parents and other key stakeholders through presentations and Q and A sessions. Finally, through fundraising initiatives, such as our Casino, Bottle Drive and Cheque Writing Campaign, School Council is able to raise funds and allocate support for initiatives from Fuel Your Brain to purchasing new technology/equipment and furnishings for our new courtyard space.
So consider attending our next meeting of the year….and perhaps think about joining our small but dedicated cadre of enthusiastic parents next year at one (or more!) of our monthly meetings! Indeed, the rewards of being a part of School Council are immediately realized by parents who attend, and ultimately, a strong School Council benefits all our students.
