Dear HWW Students, Families and Community members,
This Friday, June 20, we honour National Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Our Truth and Reconciliation Garden has now been planted with support from our CBE Grounds team, our Access, PLP, and LEAD students and staff. This is a day joyfully awaited.
As a school, our renewed Truth and Reconciliation Commitments to Action 63.3: Commit to learning about and through Indigenous knowledges focused on building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (focus on renewing respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples).
Spirit - To Be: Enhance staff understanding about intergenerational trauma and apply trauma sensitive or trauma informed practices to school structures and processes.
Mind - To Know: Design learning tasks that position teachers to learn more about the lived experiences of Indigenous students (and all students) to enhance a sense of purpose for students, and to reclaim their identity and revitalize their culture.
We have been so grateful for the support of our Indigenous Education Team and our Indigenous Graduation Coach, Andy Stefanato, as we continue to walk forward in a good way to honour Indigenous Ways of Doing, Knowing, Being and Belonging.
Our exam session is well underway. A huge thanks to our wonderful School Council for the Fuel Your Brain snacks. What a gift to student wellbeing to see the encouragement of your smiling faces! Please take note of the credit rescue opportunities continue for students until Friday.
A few calendar dates ahead of note. Report cards will be live on Wednesday, June 25. Mark appeals are Thursday, June 26 from 8am-noon. This time is dedicated to any calculation errors or questions. If you have questions now, please reach out directly to your student’s teacher.
There will be one final Wednesday Warrior on June 25. The office will be closed for the summer on June 27 and re-opening on August 20. Please watch your inboxes for summer Wednesday Warriors mid July and mid August.
With gratitude,
Aileen Smyth
Principal
