Principal's Message - May 7
Dear HWW Students, Families and Community members,
Some Spring announcements...
Thank you to all students and staff who took part in last week’s schoolyard clean up. It is looking much improved. Parents/Guardians, thank you for sharing your voice in our Active Transportation Café and please drive carefully as students are walking and biking in greater numbers with the warmer weather.
We are looking forward to our student Active Transportation Café this Friday. Last call for student sign up to provide feedback about walking, biking and parking at HWW. Students can sign up via the QR code outside the office. Sign up closes Thursday at noon.
One more “spring” note– we will soon have our Truth and Reconciliation Garden planted.; we know that has been eagerly awaited!
Our IB exam session has been going smoothly; our hats are off to our hardworking students. Speaking of which, today is Hats Off For Mental Health as we acknowledge this year’s theme of Unmasking Mental Health. The Canadian Mental Health Association invites us to “look beyond the surface and see the whole person. By embracing honesty and vulnerability, we open the door to deeper connections and the mental health benefits that come with it.”
In the website linked above are thoughtful resources about mental health masking is, what happens when we mask, and what unmasking looks like in the workplace or the classroom.
In Fine Arts news, be sure to get your tickets for our upcoming Musical performances and Calgary High School Film Festival.
I had the opportunity to visit cSpace for the Creative Exhibit of Mind, Body, Heart and Spirit– an Art collaboration displayed until May 25. It was truly remarkable to see so much Warrior artistry in this incredibly professional exhibit. Thank you to all student artists at Henry Wise Wood, William Aberhart and Central Memorial high schools. A special shout out to our own Ms. Kay and Mr. Gough. The event is free and definitely worth a visit.
In closing, we are having an outstanding spring sports’ season and so far, the weather has been in our favour. Please come on out and support!
With gratitude,
Aileen Smyth, Principal
