Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community members,
As we prepare for our upcoming Remembrance Day Assemblies on Thursday, I am confident that our ceremonies will reflect the significant work that has been taken up by teachers in various ways to help students understand the significance of this day. In my conversations with students I hear how their understanding has deepened as they have had the opportunity to engage with Veterans in significant and meaningful ways. I know our assemblies will honour all our Veterans, and their sacrifice. Our ceremonies will also acknowledge and honour Indigenous Veterans’ Day which occurs on Friday. I’d like to thank our Cadets, our Fine Arts students, our Emcees, and all student participants for their preparation for this important event. I’d also like to thank Mr. Barile, Ms. Ykema and the Fine Arts and CTS teachers who have been involved in the planning for this event. We are also appreciative of the Veteran guests and our guest speaker Master Corporal Ryan Preston who will be joining us on this day. Lest We Forget.
Agents for Change are supporting a food collection for the Veterans’ Association Food Bank through November 15. To encourage those donations, several teachers have "volunteered" to sing a karaoke song should we reach the goal of collecting 300 pounds of donations. Collections can be put into boxes located in the main foyer or brought up to room 122.
We hope students enjoy the upcoming break as Fall Break starts on Friday. Henry Wise Wood staff will be engaging in our Indigenous Professional Learning on that day, then enjoying their Fall Break as the school will be closed November 9-13 with classes resuming on November 14. November 14 is the same day that report cards go live which will provide a snapshot of student learning up to this point in the semester.
When we return from the break, Agents for Change will be hosting their Annual Bake Sale (Nov. 19-21). We will also be holding our 3rd fire drill of the year on Tuesday, November 19 at 1:50 pm. Please note that our next Wednesday Warrior will come out on November 20.
Wishing each of our Warrior students and staff a peaceful Fall Break—we will see students back to school on Thursday, November 14.
With appreciation,
Teresa Martin
Principal
