Principal’s Message

Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community members,

As we approach our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on our individual and collective commitments to our 94 Calls to Action.

In our School Council meeting, our Chair shared a beautiful reflection on the book 52 Ways to Reconcile by David A. Robertson. This book provides 52 small, daily steps to move forward our work of Reconciliation together.

A reminder to students to wear your Orange Shirts on Friday. Friday’s Warrior Connect class will engage students in creating their own Land Acknowledgements, as we consider the relationship and reciprocity we share with the land. As a school, inspired by Call to Action 63.3, we are committed to learning about and through Indigenous knowledges focussed on building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect, renewing respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

All CBE staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9 - 10:30 a.m.) at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site. This important event is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department. To learn more about this event and others, visit the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day website.

Monday is an NI Day as the staff team focus on supporting a smooth transition to high school, and between grade levels, for students, through our work within the IPP documents, outcomes-based assessment and EAL benchmarks.

Happy New Year to our families celebrating Rosh Hashanah. Enjoy the beautiful Fall weather, Warriors,

Aileen Smyth, Principal
