Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community members,
Welcome back, Warrior Families,
We are excited to have the 2024-2025 school year underway! We trust that our families have enjoyed some summer land moments and we acknowledge the Treaty 7 Territory on which our school is built.
I am pleased to be part of the Warrior family as your acting principal while Ms. Smyth is away for the first semester.
Passport to Success held on August 21 and 22 continues to be a very strong tradition at HWW as we welcomed over 1100 students getting their photo ID, grad credentials, timetables, and participating in tours.
We especially enjoyed our Link Assembly on the first day of school, where Grade 10 students had the opportunity to meet some new people, have some fun and begin the year in a good way. Thanks so much to our Link Leaders and teacher sponsors for their excellent leadership!
This week, our grade Assemblies have been very successful as we welcome students back and review how to be a successful Warrior at Henry Wise Wood. A key piece of information that we are reviewing with all of our students is the introduction of the new Admin Reg 6008 - Student Personal Mobile Devices. This has been a significant shift for students and we have been very pleased with the response from our student body. We realize this will continue to be ‘a work in progress’. As always, we welcome your questions, comments or feedback.
Just a few reminders for our Warrior families:
· Our first fire drill will be Friday at 12:45 pm
· PARKING- Please do not enter the school parking lot. This is for staff and students only. Please use the adjacent streets to pick up or drop off your child. There are hundreds of cars moving in the parking lot and we need to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, while maintaining safety.
· A reminder that we have a Warrior Connect Homeroom each Friday. This is part of our instructional day. We know that connection for students is so important to learning success. We will continue to use the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework and the domains of spirit, heart, mind and body to guide this work. Attendance is required and a great deal of important information is shared and discussed in Warrior Connect.
Coming up we have several opportunities for parents/guardians to get connected with us:
· Wednesday, Sept 11 from 6-8pm is our Meet the Teacher evening and Grade 10 IB Information night held in person at the school.
· Our wonderful School Council is up and running, the first meeting of the school year will be on Monday, September 23 at 6:30pm in the School Courtyard. All parents/guardians are welcome. A virtual link will also be provided.
· Athletics are up & running, see the newsletter info for our upcoming Sr. Football game on Thursday September 5 at 7:30 pm.
· There are some changes to CTS Bus routes, these are posted in the foyer.
Thank you for all you have done to prepare your students for back to school and welcome back! We look forward to an outstanding Fall season.
