Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community members,
Welcome back! We trust all our Warriors enjoyed a restorative break. Welcome home to our Senior Boys Rugby away team and congratulations on a successful UK tour.
Our second yearly lockdown practice is today at 1pm with our CPS partners. We anticipate this will be no more than 1 hour in duration. We will also hold our 5th of 6 fire drills on Thursday at the beginning of the lunch hour. Students are asked to exit the building and wait for the bell signal to re-enter. Lunch hour will then proceed as usual.
Monday, April 8, we will commemorate Green Shirt Day. April is also Sikh Heritage Month; we will share any upcoming student-led activities. Our best wishes to families celebrating Eid al-Fitr next week.
From April 8-12, PowerSchool grades will not be available as teachers update report cards marks and comments; report cards will be visible in PowerSchool on April 18th.
And one final note, on Monday, April 8, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m. We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child. If you decide that your child will leave campus for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.
For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists. We will also review this reminder with students in Friday’s Warrior Connect.
Have a wonderful first week back, Warriors,
Aileen Smyth
