Principal’s Message

Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community members,

Happy May to all of our Warrior Families!

In May we honour Jewish Heritage Month and Asian Heritage Month. Interested students are invited to connect with Mr. Evanson and the Warrior Diversity Council to create Warrior Connect materials to build awareness of these important commemorations.

We also celebrate Tsuut’ina Day on May 1, and have shared resources via our school tv displays. For the upcoming Red Dress Day on May 5, Warriors are encouraged to Wear Red on Monday, to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit people.

As spring arrives, we turn our thoughts to our outdoor spaces. The schoolyard cleanup will be Friday, May 10, after school. Treats will be provided for students, along with gloves and bags. We also want to remind our families of safe driving habits as more of our Warriors will be walking and biking.

Please be alert to pedestrians and cyclists in front of the school. It is an extremely busy area. We had a vehicle collision in March due to a U-turn made in front of the school. Please take care of one another and our students and drive with extra care and attention.

This past week we honoured Support Staff Appreciation Week and Admin Professionals’ Day. Sometimes it can be easy to take our teammates for granted. At Henry Wise Wood we have a remarkable group of Support Staff, who help create our Warrior Spirit and a successful learning experience for students. Thank you to our Support Staff!

May 1 is Principals’ Day and I want to say an extra thank you to all of my Principal colleagues, to our CBE System Principals, and to our three wonderful Assistant Principals who do remarkable work for students each day. When you see them at sports and events upcoming, please join me in saying thank you!

And, a final note of appreciation, as May 2 is School Bus Drivers’ Day. Thank you for your patience, skill and positivity as you drive our students.

With appreciation, and May the Fourth Be With You,

Aileen Smyth

Principal
