Program Overview 

The BIT cluster focuses on the management, marketing, and use of electronic technologies to access, use and manipulate information within personal, family, workplace, community, and global contexts. This cluster challenges students to expand their confidence, experience, and skills as innovators and leaders. 


Courses

Computing Science 10, 20, 30 (5 credits)

In Computing Science 10, students are introduced to the exciting and dynamic world of computer science. Learn the basics of how computers work, the history of computer science and write beginner level code. Students will build their own websites and program a video game.

In Computing Science 20, students will extend their programming skills which will nicely lead into Computing Science 30 when students explore topics that they would normally see in introductory post-secondary courses. They will continue their mastery of the Java programming language and the focus will be on algorithms and data structures. Game programming and application development for mobile devices (smartphones) will also be topics of exploration.


Legal Studies 10, 20, 30 (5 credits)

Our legal studies courses offer students the chance to explore the influence, impact and complexities of law. These courses are suitable for students interested in a career in law or other human services.

Business 10

This introductory course equips students with the skills and knowledge to develop a product idea into a workable business plan. Business 10 focuses on entrepreneurship, using the Lean Startup approach to teach students how to identify opportunities and innovate. The course is divided into five modules, covering key aspects of business ventures, from foundational concepts to business plan development. Designed for both IB and non-IB students, Business 10 provides a solid foundation for success in IB Business Management.

 

Business 20 & 30 (IB Business Management)

Building on the principles learned in Business 10, Business 20 and 30 dive deeper into the IB Business Management Standard Level (SL) curriculum, emphasizing real-world application and critical thinking. Students explore topics such as marketing, finance, operations, and human resources in a global context. Both IB and non-IB students complete the full IB Business Management SL program, with IB students having the option to write the SL exam. These courses are ideal for students seeking a challenging and engaging option class that prepares them for post-secondary studies or entrepreneurial ventures. Business Management is the fastest-growing IB course worldwide, and this program positions students for success in the evolving global business environment.
