Food Studies
5 Credits Available 10, 20, 30
Level 10 description: Foods 10 consists of five modules: Food Basics, Contemporary Baking, Vegetables and Fruits, Milk Products and Eggs, and Meal Planning. Throughout the course we take the students from basic cooking and baking skills (pancakes, brownies, chicken wraps) to more complex skills such as our famous Cupcake Challenge and a final two day meal project. This course also has a large focus on food safety and sanitation.
Level 20 description: Pre- Requisite Foods 10- Food Basics
Foods 20 consists of five modules: Bread Products, Rush Hour Cuisine, Grains and Legumes, Cake and Pastry and International Cuisine. This course starts with making homemade bread and pizza crust, getting the students to use all different types of leavening agents. In the year we also make fresh homemade pasta, and students compete in our amazing cake challenge. We also explore foods and flavors from around the world!
Foods 30 description: Pre- Requisite Foods 10- Food Basics
Foods 30 consists of five modules: Advanced Breads, Creative Baking, Regional Cuisine, Advanced Meat and Food Entrepreneur where students create their own Food Truck. This course will take your skills to the next level of baking and cooking!!
Sports Medicine
6 Credits Available in 10, 20, 30
Level 10 description: This course includes the study of Injury Management of Athletes , Basic Anatomy, Health Services , Communication Skills and Taping and Strapping fundamentals. . Students instruction is based in the classroom , court or field practices and games. Students work with athletes afterschool in the training room to enhance their training skills. Students are required to do 15 hours of training practices and games.
Level 20 description: This course is dealing with Injury Management at a leadership level . Level 20 learn about Pain and Pain Management , How to use, Modalities both Thermal and Cyro- Threapy. Discuss and learn about Chronic conditions and First Aid with AED component. Students are required to do a minimum of 25 hours of training afterschool at practices and games.
Pre-requisite: Injury Management and health services (done at the 10 level)
Level 30 description: This course is enhancing skills learned previously in Injury Management and working on advances in technology and First Aid . This class is mainly project based. Students work with Level 15 and 25 groups using the knowledge they have learned the past 2 years and lead in the training room at practice and games. Students are required to do 20 hours of training afterschool in a leadership role.
Pre-requisite: Injury Management 2 (done at the 20 level)
Sports Performance
5 Credits Available in 10, 20, 30
The purpose of this course is to provide students who are already involved in a competitive sport, or for the student who is looking to get into great physical condition the knowledge and the skills necessary to enhance performance. Through a combination of theory and practical exposure students are expected to demonstrate varying levels of fitness. These relate to the current trends in training principles, performance evaluations, sport studies and personal development. Designed for the serious athlete, students will participate in aerobic training, strength training, agility/explosive power training, and flexibility training strategically designed to enhance their specific sport performance and fitness levels. Please note, there is a fee requirement for this course.
Girls Fitness and Wellness
5 Credits Available in 10, 20, 30
Girls will be introduced to psychological concepts related to physical and mental wellness. Topics include: nutrition, body image, strategies for coping with stress. Female fitness trends i.e. hot yoga, spin class, pilates, are sample activities. Course fees apply.
