Dear Henry Wise Wood Families:

We hope you were able to book a virtual interview with your child’s teachers for tomorrow. There is no school for students. Please email teachers directly should you want to be in contact.  Term one report cards will be shared on Monday, November 9, so there is still time to improve academic standing.  Outstanding summative assessments should be completed by Wednesday, October 28 to provide marking time.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Veterans’ Tea such a meaningful success this past Wednesday. Under the exceptional leadership of Ms. Teleky, students had the opportunity to connect with more than 40 veterans, explore exhibits, hear personal stories, and reflect on the values of remembrance, gratitude, service, and community. This cherished HWW tradition continues to create powerful connections between generations while honoring the sacrifices of veterans and the memory of those who have shaped our school community. We are deeply grateful to the many students, staff, volunteers, veterans, and community partners who made this inspiring event possible.

Deep gratitude is also extended to the Friends of Wise Wood Football (also referred to as Friends of HWW Football). This past Friday night committed parents and volunteers generated a memorable evening to raise funds in their pursuit of football excellence, equipment needs, athlete development, and community-building events.  HWW Football Families are encouraged to follow Instagram:  Friends Of HWW Football (@hww_football) • Instagram photos and videos

Student Transit Survey: 521 Voices, One Important Conversation
Thank you to the 521 students and parents who shared their experiences through our Henry Wise Wood transit survey. We brought the results to a productive meeting with Ward 11 Councillor Rob Ward, Calgary Transit, CBE Transportation and school administration to discuss the challenges students are experiencing and opportunities for improvement.
What did we learn, and what happens next? Read the full recap, including key survey findings, Calgary Transit facts, discussion highlights and next steps, on the Wisewood Families website.

Congrats to our WiseMUN Model United Nations delegates, who attended their first conference of the year over the weekend at Sir Winston Churchill High School. Nearly forty delegates attended, including many first-timers who had a wonderful weekend finding their voices, debating global issues, and cooperating with students from around the city to seek out solutions to complex geopolitical issues. A special shout out to Eliza, Zain, Navneeth, Maahip, Seth, and Taylor, who all took home committee awards. All of our delegates should be proud of themselves for their diplomacy, dedication, and hard work!

A special thank you to Ms. Khalil for sponsoring the Dance Club! The club will meet every Thursday at lunch in Room 135 (Yoga Studio).  We encourage all students to get involved in at least one club this year. Every club welcomes new members, and most clubs offer flexible attendance, making it easy for students to participate when they can.

The GATE Parent Association is hosting a presentation entitled: Teaching Our Kids in the “Acceleration Age” – Without the Gift of Prophecy – presented by Dr. Veronika Bohac-Clarke, University of Calgary, Werklund School of Education

This presentation is open to all and is directed to parents and teachers looking to assist our children navigate our current era, which may be described as the “Acceleration Age”, where information is quickly moving and all at once. This is especially challenging as we grew up in a different, slower moving age and are also just learning to navigate this “Acceleration Age” while trying to provide guidance to our children. We invite attendees thinking about their own questions and possible solutions in advance of the presentation.
