As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, Henry Wise Wood continues to create opportunities for students, staff, and families to learn, reflect, engage, and take meaningful Reconcilia(c)tion. Throughout the school, students are encountering resources that invite them to learn from Indigenous perspectives, connect with the land, observe seasonal change, and consider how learning can lead to meaningful action. 

Students and staff are encouraged to wear an Orange Shirt on Tuesday, September 29, or throughout the week, as a visible reminder of the truths and ongoing impacts of the Residential School system and our shared commitment to reconciliation. Community members are also encouraged to explore our Opportunities for Learning, Reflection, & Reconcilia(c)tion and Opportunities to Connect with the Land resources ahead of Friday.   Families are encouraged to see our Orange Shirt post on Instagram:  @ wisewoodwarriors

During Warrior Connect on Friday October 2,  students will begin in the Spirit domain and participate in our iistsii'ik Sharing Circle Framework, reflecting together on what they know and understand about Truth, History, and Reconcilia(c)tion, what they learn through listening to others, and what questions they want to carry forward. 

We have also renewed our 2026-27 HWW Commitment to Truth and Reconcilation, while our Leadership Team has begun a year-long study of  Carolyn Roberts’ Re-Storying Education. As we move into October, our Around the Seasons learning continues with saiaiksi itomatoyi, “When the Geese Leave,” inviting our school community to notice the changing season and deepen connections among land, language, observation, and learning. 

Staffing Update:  Welcome to Mrs. Veronica Robinson who is joining us in Student Services (students with last name A – G).    Mrs. Robinson retired from a Principal position in Manitoba and chose to move closer to her grandchildren as well as the beautiful Banff area.  She has a Master of Education, Guidance and Counselling, a Bachelor of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts (Geography, Sociology) and was a Guidance Counsellor for 12 years before entering administration.  She joined the faculty on Thursday, September 24 to have a transition day with Ms. Badyal.  Her email address is:  VMRobinson@cbe.ab.ca.  We feel very fortunate to have Mrs. Robinson join the HWW faculty in 2026-27.

Wisewood Families: A Great Start to the Year!  

Our first School Council meeting of the 2026-27 school year brought together 33 parents, guardians, students, staff and community members. We welcomed Principal Michelle Hornby and student representatives Isadora S. and Katie D., heard about transportation challenges, introduced the new Wise Wood Wish List funding process, and shared ways to get involved this year. 

Transit was our first Council Conversation. The discussion highlighted a number of concerns, and Council agreed that the first step is to better understand the experiences of students and families.

Calling All Student Cadets! Would you like to organize and take part in Wise Wood’s annual Remembrance Day Assembly flag party? Please see Ms. Bamford in Room 122 As Soon As Possible.  

Grade 10 students from Harold Panabaker school who ordered yearbooks – The yearbooks are now available for pick up at the Harold Panabaker main office.  

Parking Passes:  Application extended to October 1st.  

We apologize for a recent CBE PowerSchool issue that prevented some students and families from seeing achievement information. This issue has now been resolved.  Students and families can now see assignment and/or outcome grades and teacher feedback in PowerSchool. Overall course grades are now visible and will reflect student achievement based on the evidence of learning available at that point in the course. As learning continues and additional evidence is gathered, the overall grade may change.  Teachers have been asked to have grades updated by Thursday October 1st. 

Waiting to show the overall course grade gives teachers time to collect enough assessment information before calculating an overall grade. As a result, when the grade becomes visible, it provides a more accurate picture of how the student is doing in the course at that time rather than being based on only a small amount of evidence.  This approach is intended to support student learning, achievement, and well-being while keeping students and families informed about progress throughout the course. For more information in relation to how your child is assessed and how we share information about your child’s progress and achievement, please review the links:
