Principal's Message

Dear HWW Students, Families and Community members,

A special thank you to our Administrative Front Office, Business Manager, and Library Team as we honour Admin Professionals’ Day today! We couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for being a warm welcome and support for our Warrior Family.

Sharing our outstanding showing at Badminton Cities this week, with two Gold Medals and two fourth place finishes. Thank you to Coach Clarke for all the expertise and support.

Our fourth annual Culture Week was an outstanding opportunity to build our cultural knowledge and connection. Thank you to all student and staff participants.

Though we didn’t have the ticket sales needed to run our school dance, we look forward to a Neon Themed Pep Rally in May.

A reminder of our rescheduled Fire Drill tomorrow at 10:15am.

As a staff, we have identified some student attendance issues during Term 3. We will be working on additional attendance interventions and ask you as parents/guardians for your support. If you are receiving attendance notifications, please talk with your student about getting back on track. Attendance has a significant correlation to student achievement and Term 4 is now well underway.

For Grade 12 parents/guardians, please review the newsletter links for Graduation including banquet tickets which go on sale this Friday at noon.

And finally, a reminder of our upcoming School Council Meeting, on Monday, April 27 at 6:30pm. This one is online only.

With gratitude,

Aileen Smyth, Principal

GATE Calgary will be having a Parent Education Session on Thursday, May 14, 2026 entitled "Tips for Consuming Research on Giftedness from Someone Who Helps Create it" presented by Dr. Matthew Makel, Professor and Chair in High Ability Studies (University of Calgary, Werklund School of Education), Child Health & Wellness Researcher (Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute).

Turning to research can be a helpful way to get safe answers to your questions about giftedness and gifted children. But knowing how to interpret the research and knowing if/how/when it applies to the question you have can be difficult. In this presentation, Dr. Makel will discuss with you what researchers themselves consider when they read research and how it can help you.

This virtual meeting is open to GATE and non-GATE parents.

This parent education session will be followed by a short general meeting for members of the GPA. If you have a student registered in GATE for this current school year, you are a member of the GPA.

Date & Time: Thursday, May 14, 2026, 7:00 pm
Venue: Virtual meeting (Google Meet)
